Why do Muslims fast throughout Ramadan? The idea of Muslims’ fasting in the month of Ramadan may seem strange. Why does the entire nation of almost two billion people, altogether for a whole month, not eat, drink or have intimate relations during the daylight hours? Is it not a very harsh practice?

This practice can be found in most of the major religions of the world, like Hinduism, Judaism and Christianity. In most religions, fasting is observed for the expiation of sins? Why is fasting observed in Islam?
